SERVICE
RCHK First Aid Team (FAT)
I have been an active participant of the RCHK first aid team for the past three years in this school, although, this year, I had one of the most exhilarating and interesting experiences so far. Through the years of experience on the team, it contributed to the team, by signing up to be the first aider for season one sport swimming, along with another fellow member, and have also participated in other minor services such as walk for change and helped out during athletics carnival. With the major services of first aiding for the swimming team during season one, I have demonstrated perseverance and commitment, by following the team on two weekly meets to various schools, assisting athletes not only from our school, but other students from different schools in need as well.
Although no major incidents have occurred during my duties, one of the more memorable experiences I have gained form this, was the skill of how to react when athletes experience an excessive nosebleed. During the ISSFHK championships, a year 6 girl experiences a serious nosebleed for over 45 minutes. Due to her enthusiasm to participate in the meet, she refused our suggestions of going to the hospital. Hence, we resorted to assisting her to the pool’s first aid station for more resources. Through this experience, I have learnt that it is more important to learn how to communicate with the patient, as well as gaining enough experience and skills to know how to react under extreme circumstances. This incident has given me to increase awareness of my strengths and areas of growth. Another main goal that I have achieved, is undertaking new challenges. During previous duties, it is usually rather uneventful, with limited injuries and incidents, in turn limiting my opportunities to gain actual experience under different circumstances. Although I was not on a shift during the athletics carnival, I voluntarily helped out around the first aid room when I did not have events. During this service, I was able to experience a larger range of injuries and incidents, such as treating heat strokes and bandaging new sprains or even existing injuries, giving me an excellent opportunity to develop new skills.
Overall, I have worked collaboratively with all other members of the team during the range of services I have participated in, as well as coaches and nurses through quality communication ahead of time, responsibility and enthusiasm during activities, contributing to good collaboration and relationship between all participants of each duty.

Black Kites Athletic Council
As one of the new initiatives of the student body, our school has officially established an athletic council run by two members of the student council and representatives from each years within the secondary school. The purpose of this service, is to initiate and plan more athletic activities to engage and include the secondary student body, as well as discuss issues related to various sporting teams and event. We strive to provide a better and more inclusive sporting environment for every student, and also provide more opportunities for those who does not regularly participate in athletic teams of physical education sessions such as many diploma students. I contributed to the athletic council through the proposal of various new initiatives in order to provide more sporting activity opportunities and to further refine our school's sporting system, in order to reduce unfairness and under acknowledgement of athletes. Overall, I feel that I have shown perseverance and commitment to his activity, by always being punctual to the meetings held every fortnight, as well as being an active participant in all discussions held during meetings. Through my passion for sports, I hope to assist the PE department and school to develop a more mature athletic system, allowing everyone to feel that sports is not only for those who exceed in it, but is for everyone who is willing and enthusiastic to participate.

Year 12 Focus Group
Being one of the oldest group of students in our school, I began to feel the responsibility as a role model for students younger years. With this in mind, I decided to join the year 12 focus group, in the hopes of improving the learning environment for other students within the school. The role of student council members, is to provide optimistic feedback and opinions for the student council, as well as contributing suggestions for the leaders of the focus group and head of year, which can be further discussed with other student council members later on.
As a member of the student council, I have shown perseverance and commitment to this service, by actively participating in discussions, putting forward my opinions to projects and issues, as well as suggesting different practices and aspects of which we can improve the school community. I have also attended all monthly meetings of the focus group with good punctuality. Furthermore, I have worked collaboratively with other members of the focus group, communicating and accepting different viewpoints and suggestions proposed by others, as well as engaging in critical discussions with the group and working with the other members to promote what has been discussed to other students in the year. Through this role, I have learnt that it is important to optimistically provide opinions for issues without the influence of personal emotions and needs, as well as better understanding the purpose and efficiency of different decisions made by the school.

Poetry Gone Sonic Bake and Sell
Volunteering for baking and selling pastry for poetry gone sonic has been an wonderful and new experience for me. Within this volunteer session, we were required to bake batches of cupcakes and brownies to sell and the following night’s function.
During this activity, I have demonstrated traits of a risk taker, by undertaking new challenges and developing a new skill. As I have no experience in baking, it was an interesting experience to learn from other group mates who have baked before, who are very willing to teach us the fundamental skills in baking. Through this service, I learnt the safety precautions of working in a kitchen with various dangerous tools, at the same time had a wonderful time experimenting in the kitchen with my friends.By splitting up the tasks of baking, from mixing cupcakes batter with icing sugar to decorating the cupcakes, I worked collaboratively with others to efficiently and successfully produce my first every batch of cupcakes!

RCHK Hosted Junior Swimming Meet
As a senior member in the Black Kites swimming team, I feel that it is my responsibility and commitment to assist the team in different aspects, hence volunteering as the role of a marshall during one of the ISSFHK junior swimming meets hosted by RCHK. I volunteered in this event as I am a swimmer who is very familiar with the structure of such events and the equipment used from past experiences. I have also demonstrated the traits of perseverance and commitment through good communication and enthusiasm during the event. I particularly enjoyed this service as the younger swimmers being nervous and excited for their first race, reminded me of my previous memorable moments as a younger swimmer.
In this meet, I enjoyed working collaboratively with others to ensure that the meet would run smoothly without interference. My role in this session, was to lead the younger swimmers to their lanes when given a signal by other marshals, making sure that all swimmers are in their correct lanes to prevent confusion when timekeepers record their times. I was also assigned the role of the lane judge, who is in charge of judging 1-5 position and double checking time sheets with other marshals.

RCHK College Fair
During the college fair, I helped out at the Bali stall selling bracelets we brought back from the CAS trip back in November, as well as running a game with poker cards. Volunteering at the stall brought back many pleasant memories from the previous week spent on the trip, with a chance to promote the purpose of the trip, as well as the trip itself. Through this service opportunity, I have learnt to better communicate and negotiate, in order to attract more customers and sell the bracelets for a higher price.
Through this service, our group has created a bulletin board full of pictures and information from the side by side farm, which is the area of which all donations would go to helping. By explaining the difficulties and needs of Ketut (the owner of the farm) and his family to customers, we engaged with issues of global importance. We recognized the issue of poverty and seasonal effects to farmers, what we can do to help those who are less fortunate than us, as well as did our best to raise more funds to help out those in need. Furthermore, we also considered the ethical implications of our luxurious lifestyle and habits, highlighting the importance of saving food, as the food wasted each day may be what others depend on for a long period of time. Lastly, I worked collaboratively with others to smoothly run the stall, by splitting up the tasks such as advertising and taking in money between different people and time slots, allowing time for breaks in between the long duration of the fair. Through this service, I learnt the importance of collaboration, as it is the key to success.

Youth Night
As a part of our year 12 CAS trip to Bali, I have been assigned the role as the co-ordinator for the youth night at Side by Side Farm. The goal of this service, is to organize a fun and entertaining night filled with various activities for the local village children.
Through this activity, I have increased awareness of my own strengths and areas for growth. I learnt the importance of physical communication with children, as they do not acquire of a high level of english. I also understood, that in order to fulfill a successful leadership role, I must posses of various traits such as responsibility, patience and be open-minded. This helped me to understand that not only to children, but it is important to show empathy for others as well.
During this event, I have achieved my goal of planning and initiating events. From the brainstorm and selection process of activities, to the preparation of resources and materials, and most of all, the actual leading of the event, I feel that I have demonstrated traits of a successful leader throughout the process of planning and participation. Along the planning process, I have also taken on new challenges and developed new skills. As I am not particularly talented in art and interaction with children, I had to do several research and experiments to determine whether the activities will be suitable for such young children. It was also a challenge for me to be responsible for a group of nearly 20 kids whom I have difficulty in communication with, but with help from other members of the trip, we successfully created a memorable and enjoyable night for the children.
Overall, I believe that I have demonstrated good collaboration skills with others, as we worked effectively together to put this event together. Along with a group of two other students, we critically selected and analyzed different activities and whether it should be selected for the event. We considered the limited amount and portability of resources, as well as the minimal amount of space available for us.
