Volunteer at Everbright Nursing Home
For my personal project this year, I am focusing on the lacking areas of Hong Kong nursing homes and problems elderlies face. As a part of my project, I have organized an individual visit to the Everbright Nursing home with the social worker in charge, in order to personally experience the environment and services provided for the elderlies living within the home. During this visit, I have volunteered to take care of the elderlies at the home for a day. My roles of the day included taking care of their meals, escorting them to move around the campus and interacting with them. The biggest highlight of the day was a music period organized by the home, where other elderlies from community centers dressed up as african tribal people, performing music and interaction with the elderlies. During this session, I assisted the social workers to help elderlies enjoy the music as well. Through this session, I thoroughly understand the importance of being a communicator, as many of the elderlies cannot clearly express themselves due to old age. I have learnt that many social workers willingly support these people without any payback, which is a quality I extremely admire. I have demonstrated myself as a caring person, showing my sympathy for those who lack care, and also fulfilling my duty as a member of the community.

Unicef - Food and water group
The main event that we have participated in this year, is to collect money from every class in our school for the Philippines Flood Food Drive, hosted in order to send resources to the less accessible parts of our world. My role in this service is to go to every class on the fourth floor during advisory to collect donations from students. Although this was not a very challenging task, I was able to see the enthusiasm and eagerness our students posses to, as well as their willingness to help others. Another event that is still currently in the preparation stages is a water simulation. Our group plan to design different scenarios that would be expresses in various games in order to promote the serious issue of lacking water in some places of the world. We have all made contributions of ideas and suggestions of how the stimulation should be organized. Overall, I have learnt the importance of passion and care for people who are less fortunate than us.

Year 2 Studio Time
My role in this service is to teach year two students different creative activities. Since I have been in this commitment for two sectors, I had the pleasure of trying out both cooking and arts and craft with the children for the first semester of the school year. The aim of this service is to provide primary children with adequate amount of relaxation time filled with fun and creative activities that is necessary for a student in order to maintain an inspired and healthy lifestyle. I joined this service as I enjoy working with children and I also think that it creativity and interaction with other age groups is very important for both a person’s mental and physical health. Exercise can help a person relieve their stress and emotions. It also helps me become more concentrated, which allows me to think clearer. In my opinion, creativity activities is one of the most beneficial hobbies to us students. From this service, I learnt to be responsible, patient and to be able to communicate clearly with younger age groups. This helped me to understand that not only to children, but it is important to show empathy for others as well.

iHeart RCHK Rock Climbing Program
During the school college fair, I have been a part of the iHeart RCHK rock climbing team, assisting students to enjoy the school climbing wall that we have little chances of using, along with promoting the importance of heart diseases. This service has been a challenge for me, as our commitment within is not only to marshall at the climbing walls on the day of the school fair, but also to attend a one and a half hour weekly training session on tuesday mornings for the period of two months, in order to ensure the safety of the participants. On the day of the college fair, each member of our small team have rotated between the roles of belaying, spotting, marshaling, gearing up and instructions to allow some resting time in between the long six hour period. Through this opportunity, I have developed my persistence, dedication, patience as well as explanation skills to attend every early morning training session, as well as explain the importance of safety to the less experienced participants. It has been a enjoyable experience to participate in a service with relates with one of my favorite sports, which I am also experienced in.

RCHK Mental Health Awareness Team
As a member of the RCHK Mental Health Awareness team, I have attended numerous services over the period of semester one. These included in school activities such as creating christmas cards, bookmarks, notebooks, and other small items for the team's fundraising stall during the college fair, as well as out of school visits to an mentally disabled patient open day. During the visit, we had a chance to interact and communicate with these patients, as well as gather daily essentials and make homemade cups for the less fortunate, who live in caged homes or extremely small areas to express our concern and care. During the period of service, I have learnt a lot about our current community, as well as the difficulties many face, struggling to live a sustainable life. Through this commitment, I have learnt to be a communicator and caring person, as it is important to be patient and kind when interacting with the patients. Furthermore, I feel that this has been an excellent experience for me, as I have become more exposed to different parts of our society, which I would have not known about until now.

First Aid Team RCHK
The mission of this team is to promote first aid to school community and strive to provide good first aid services. Professional first aid service is one of the most essential elements that will maintain a successful school system. Us as first aiders are responsible for attending to patients to prevent their injury or illness from worsening and to calm the patient’s emotions. I chose to attend join this team as I have a passion for using my abilities to help others in need. This is a brilliant opportunity for me to care and treat others, which gives me a sense of satisfaction each time I do so. Through this service opportunity, I was also able to gain a lot of valuable experience and knowledge that can be used to aid others. I also joined the first aid team as I feel that it is a significant way to contribute to the RCHK community. As I part of this team, I learnt how to protect the safety of ourselves as well as others. From the experiences of past services, I also learnt that organization is an important part of any activity or event. Without organization, we would be unprepared for any emergency or unplanned situations that could put the group in danger. This year, I have been raised to a veteran medic of the team, hence allowing me to participate in first aid duties for sports such as rugby, which has more injuries. In this process, I had the chance to work with other veteran medics, learning for each other, and also gaining more experience with each shift we attend, regardless of whether there were injuries during the game.

ESF Chairmans Award
Volunteering at the ESF Chairmen Award Ceremony has given me an excellent opportunity to have an in-sight of student life in diploma program. My role within the ceremony was to help prepare the PAC for the event, as well as marshal and assist visitors during the ceremony. During the ceremony, I also had a chance to interact with current and graduate DP students, and have learned a lot more about the IB Diploma program, as well as understand and preparing for the difficulties I will have to face as well in the next two years in order to achieve my future dream as a doctor. It motivates my passion towards working hard, commitment and hopefully will accomplish a fulfilling future that I dream of.

HKASC Debate Volunteer
I am not an experience debater, nor have I attended many debates in my previous school life. Volunteering at this event have given me an excellent opportunity to experience what it is like for debaters to freely express their opinions towards a matter, as well as rebut or accept the opinions of the opposing team with logical evidence and explanation from a close distance. My job within the volunteering team is to prepare and clean up the venue of the event, resister participants, as well as acting as the timekeeper of the debate. Through this service, I have gained much more understanding of the structure of a debate, as well as recognized the power of expression and language.
