About Me
This year has been an particularly fulfilling, yet challenging year for me due to the heavy workload of the fifth year in MYP, as well as maintaining my contribution to the community. Despite the business throughout the year, I have found a balance between my academic work, action, service as well as my personal social life for relaxation and interaction with friends. Throughout the year, there were times were I felt tired, lazy and unmotivated. Yet, within these emotions, there were excitement, joy, pleasure and much satisfaction. The mentionable experiences that I feel have hugely contributed to my year is my participation in the World of Work program, a summer internship at the Medical Management Center, Summer Clinical Attachment Program as well as the personal project. These have all better prepared me to fulfill my future dreams in the medical field.
This personal project has provided me with an excellent opportunity to research and express a topic which I am interested and curious about. I the topic I have chosen for my personal project is to deepen societies’ knowledge of the differences between Non Governmental Organization (NGO) nursing homes and private owned nursing homes in Hong Kong as well as address the existing laking issues of each respectively. Hence, raise awareness and promote paths which would allow society to reach out and help those elderly in need. I have chosen this subject, as it is related to the medical field, but also because I know the importance of care and support from family for elderlies due to personal experience of my own family members. Although the extra project was difficult to complete over our heavy year eleven workload, I feel that the experience and joy along the way is worth it, and that I have completed the project with good time management and commitment. Another experience that has made my year more exciting and fulfilling is the opportunity to participate in the Summer Clinical Attachment Program hosted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, as well as the forty hour summer internship at the Medical Management Center. These extra opportunities has deepened my understanding of my ambition, as well and given me many opportunities to interact with the world out of the one I live in. In the academic sense, I feel that I have also put in my best effort in all subjects, showing consistent improvement in majority of my subjects.
Other than academic values, I have been able to strike a good balance of time for my schoolwork and extra curricular activities. I have participated in many service activities, whilst being able to continue training for my hobby of swimming at least twice a week. Through the CAS activities this year, I was able to understand more about the local culture of Hong Kong as well as meet many new friends from both an international school background and local school students. There are great memories from these activities and friends that I would treasure for life.
Overall, I feel that this year had turned out a great success, and I hope to further continue this success next year in the diploma program. I will strive to improve in my academics, face any challenges I come across in the future, as well as contribute more to the Hong Kong society and Renaissance College. From my experiences this year, I understand that it is important to possess all of the characteristics of the IB learner profile in order to achieve my set objectives.
