Open-Minded
I feel that the piece of work that best represents me as an open-minded student is a moderated summative report evaluating Hong Kong Kai Tak’s development plan. This assessment was given in humanities during semester one, which was graded with criterion B for investigation, criterion C for critical thinking, and criterion D for communication.
This piece of presentation reflects the characteristics of an open-minded student because it reflected that I have acknowledged the needs and lacking areas of the social, economical, political and environmental society of Hong Kong. I value the benefits of Hong Kong, which shows that I am able to appreciate my country, and asses way of which we can improve the community we live in. As this assessment evaluates the Kai Tak development plan according to the issues present in the Hong Kong society, it has allowed me to understand more about my surrounding and community I love in. Other than objective evaluations of the plan, I am also required to provide thoughtful suggestions for improvement to the plan, justified with researched statistics which also demonstrates my attribute of an open-minded student.
This assessment required me to evaluate the government plan for the redevelopment of Kai Tak, and To improve the plan based on individual research. I chose to base my report on the research question “Is Kai Tak the best location for a sports complex or is the area better suited for other facilities that meets the needs of hong kong". I gave a brief summary of the background information of our society, the history, geography, demographics of Kai Tak as well as the major issues our current society faces. Within this, I was able to gain further knowledge of the state I live in.
The main focus of this assessment was to determine the issues of the development plan, and explain why this aspect does not fully facilitate the requirements of Hong Kong. The issues I have identified in the plan was the that he residential areas surrounding the complex might raise issues about noise level and traffic congestion during large scale events, and also does not solve the issue of inconvenience. Another aspect I focused on in my evaluation was public housing. As majority of the area is designed for green space and the stadium, it is not suitable for public housing, nor does it meet the needs of citizens as they feel that public housing should be prioritized over other facilities. I determined these weaknesses of the plan through reading articles of event, reviews, information and my basic knowledge of the society. This suggested that I am able to analyze information and critically analyze it against the plan by identifying both strengths and weaknesses in response to the research.
I presented my information by categorizing the different issues in my report. I have incorporated the use of appendixes, as we have a word limit of 1,200 words. Furthermore, all my perspectives were supported with statistics which is accurately sites with reliable sources in APA formatting. I feel that I did well with this assessment as I represented myself as an open minded person through appreciating the culture in my living state and was able to accept the there are limitations within our community. If I have a chance to improve this assessment, I would choose to explain the development plan in a larger perspective, instead of focusing on one specific aspect of it.
