PERSONAL INTRODUCTION
Hello, I am Annabel Suen Ho Ying. My parents and I have travelled and lived in other cities such as Beijing and Kuala Lumpur previously and have returned to Hong Kong for nearly three years. This is my third year studying at Renaissance College, and I am delighted to be apart of the elite team of Scholars at RCHK. Being a scholar has given me many opportunities to develop my skills in all aspects, as well as a strong motivation to work hard and take up more leadership roles in order to better contribute to our school community. I was born on the twenty-sixth of August 1997 and I am currently seventeen years old. I have been able to develop strong and close friendships with many of my classmates in various subject classes and I am a member of Ms. Syed's advisory group Ming 12.
Being an senior academic scholar, my hobbies does not limit within the academic field, but instead range between various active and leisure activities. I have a passion for swimming and rock climbing. I started taking swimming lessons at the young age of four which led to much more intensive training as I grew older. When I stayed in Kuala Lumpur, I was able to join the state team and represented the state in six years of national meets. Coming back to Hong Kong, I have been a part of Win Tin Swimming Club's Shatin team for the past three years, but have temporarily halted my swimming sessions since December 2014, as I hope to concentrate more on my studies. Swimming has allowed me to have many new experiences and interactions with people outside of my year group and our school, being a great way to quickly help me adapt to the Hong Kong society. I started to learn rock climbing at the age of eleven and later on competed in several inters - school meets within Malaysia that I had won. This year, I have initiated a CAS project of student led rock climbing club in RCHK, in the hopes of further extending my interests to the RCHK community. I also enjoy more relaxed hobbies such as reading English fictional novels as I feel that I can release myself in the fictional world of the novel and sense the emotions of the characters of the story. It gives me a thrilling experience each time I read a new fictional novel.
This is my first year studying the IB Diploma program and I feel that I am gradually understanding the system better. My favorite elective subject in school is Chemistry and Biology. I enjoy studying both science subjects, as am curious to understand more about the nature and the environment of things, and hope to discover the knowledge which would contribute to human race in the medical field in my future career. My least favorable subject is English as I find it difficult to understand and critically evaluate some texts with contexts which I have limited cultural knowledge of. The beginning of our extended essay has also provided me with a better opportunity to further discover and extend my knowledge of human needs within the field of biology.
Overall, I feel that I am a positive yet cautious person. I often think carefully over any matter before I act as I feel that rash decisions and can cause catastrophic or difficult situations. I also try to stride for the best in any situation. I feel that the most important thing is to always use a positive attitude to face any obstacles we cross throughout our year.
In this website, I am going to reflect on which IB Learner Profile I believe is my strength and goal, as well as any commitments and service I have contributed to the school and society throughout the year.
